Located near the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park about 50 miles west of the Asheville Regional Airport, Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort in North Carolina opened the Cherokee Convention Center in 2021, adding 85,000 square feet of exhibition and meeting space. Owned by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, Harrah’s Cherokee is managed by Caesars Entertainment.

Las Vegas tourism and business leaders officially broke ground on a $600 million renovation of the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) on May 9. Work will continue through 2025, with construction designed to accommodate and minimize disruption to scheduled trade shows. As part of the renovation project, a newly designed parking lot outside of the Central Hall will feature a Vegas Loop station to transport convention goers to and from Wynn and Encore Las Vegas when the completed project debuts in Spring 2024.

Attendees and exhibitors participating in events at CAESARS FORUM will soon have an additional hotel room option within just a short walking distance as Caesars Entertainment is about to invest more than $100 million in a major hotel renovation project that will convert the Jubilee Tower at Horseshoe Las Vegas and integrate it into the Paris Las Vegas. On April 24, Michigan Central Station, the highly anticipated development in Detroit, celebrated the official grand opening of Newlab Detroit, a high-tech startup ecosystem that has already attracted 25 companies, in the restored Book Depository. Built in 1936, the Albert Kahn-designed Roosevelt Warehouse, a three-story building next to the old train station, is open again after sitting vacant since a fire in 1987.

Sodexo Live! unveiled an herb and vegetable garden at the soon-to-open Rum Room restaurant and Venu event space at the Miami Beach Convention Center (MBCC). Organized in partnership with Compost for Life Miami, the sustainability project is part of a larger initiative aimed at reducing the environmental impact of the MBCC campus.

The Kentucky General Assembly has passed legislation that includes a revision (from 6% to 0%) to the commonwealth’s sales tax on exhibit and sponsor space rental for face-to-face business events. Signed into law by Governor Andy Beshear on March 24, it states that business event organizers will be exempt from charging sales tax to their exhibitors and sponsors, essentially reversing a new 6% tax that went into effect on Jan. 1.

The Seattle Convention Center (SCC) is gearing up to host opening celebrations on Jan. 25 for Summit, its $2 billion high-rise convention center in downtown Seattle. With 573,770 square feet of event space, the addition nearly doubles the capacity of the SCC.
