I have daily conversations with frustrated exhibitors who’ve had to make the tough decision to back out of a show because they couldn’t justify the spend. Some of those who asked their show organizer for data or support were turned away with no help.     Are they talking to the wrong person — someone who doesn’t realize the importance of cultivating a market where both exhibitors and attendees are empowered to find each other? In some cities and at some shows, costs are rising so high that exhibitors are asking if they can create their own event in a hotel for less money and have better… more

Artificial intelligence (AI) has undoubtedly been a hot topic of many event and conference agendas lately, but are we missing a trick?  There is no doubt that there have been significant advancements in AI technology and how it can support event businesses with marketing content, matchmaking and transcriptions, for example. However, one area is being overlooked: data and insight.  Exhibit managers and trade show organizers have faced a significant challenge over recent years: grappling with the overwhelming amount of data generated by their events and online activities, and knowing what to… more

Over the past few years, there has been a shift in food and beverage (F&B) marketing trends toward personalization. This trend began with small businesses but has since been adopted by major corporations. Personalization enhances connection by providing each trade show guest with a unique experience. There are many ways to personalize a food or beverage product. One way to implement personalization is to print names or photos onto individual packaging or even the product itself. Implementing an effective F&B marketing strategy can help increase the success of your event. When trade… more

Early in my career, attending a European event was exotic and rare, and I saw very few American exhibitors on the show floor. Today, globalization has opened the door between many countries, and it’s common for U.S. companies to have multiple EU trade shows on their event calendar. If you're lucky enough to be tasked with managing a European event, you’re in for an exciting adventure, but there are key differences to consider and a few potential landmines you’ll need to navigate.  Space Selection Depending on the size and popularity of the event, space selection may be based on a point… more

I can’t believe it's been more than 20 years since I stumbled into this industry. I had no idea what I was getting into. I remember feeling like I'd joined the circus – moving from city to city, building events and tearing them down and creating amazing, unique experiences for the guests. I've traveled all over the U.S., and every time I tell people what I do for a living, they assume I've seen so much of this country. But the truth is, my pictures are inside venues, my memories are on the show floor, and my traveling companions are mostly my industry peers. One of my most vivid memories… more

How do you get attendees to stop at your booth and create a memorable impression of your brand? Unique, functional, tasty and fun giveaways were among the most popular traffic generators at EXHIBITORLIVE, held April 24-26 at the Kentucky International Convention Center (KICC) in Louisville, Ky. While I didn’t get a chance to stop at every booth, here are 13 exhibits that stood out to me. 1. Fern Expo gave away cupcakes from Sissy Cakes, a woman-owned baking business in Louisville.  2. The owner of Red Hot Roasters, a local roasting company, made fresh expressos and lattes every day, all day… more

As the world becomes increasingly aware of the power of language and its potential to perpetuate biases and stereotypes, we must examine the words we use daily. This is especially important in the events industry, where we have an obligation to create inclusive and welcoming environments for all attendees, exhibitors, partners and more. In part two of our series, we’ll explore additional words and phrases that are common in the events industry but have negative historical connotations or promote exclusivity. From the insensitive use of “manhours” to the problematic term “grandfathered-in,”… more

Producing a corporate video at a trade show can be a great way to promote your company and showcase your products or services to potential customers. From my experience producing several videos at trade shows each year for the last 10 years, here are six steps for planning, executing and producing from the show floor. 1. Define your goals. Before you start producing your video, define the purpose of the video and the message you want to convey to your audience. Is it to introduce a new product, highlight your company's achievements or showcase your services? Once you have identified your… more
